This policy outlines the types of personal information collected, how it is used, and the measures taken to protect it. By using this website and software, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.
1. Information collected
Information you give us. When you submit the contact form, we receive what you typed into it — typically a name, an email address, and your message. When you sign up for email updates, we receive your email address and a record of your consent (see section 3).
Usage data. Some information is recorded automatically when you use the website or download the software:
- Your IP address
- Browser type and version
- Operating system
- Date and time of the request
- Which pages were viewed and which files were downloaded
This is what tells us how many people use each application and whether a release is working.
2. How the information is used
- To provide, maintain and improve the website and the software
- To answer your questions and offer support
- To send the email updates you signed up for
- To understand traffic and usage patterns
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties, except as necessary to comply with the law or to protect our rights.
3. Email updates
If you sign up for email updates, we keep your email address together with a record of your consent:
- the date and time you agreed, and when you confirmed by email
- the exact wording you agreed to, and the page you signed up on
- the IP address, browser and language setting your device sent when you agreed and when you confirmed
Nothing is added to the list until you click the confirmation link we email you. That link works for one hour; if it is not used, the request and everything sent with it is deleted.
We use your address only to send the updates you asked for: news about our software and website, and occasionally offers or advertising. The legal basis is your consent, and we keep the consent record because we must be able to show that you gave it. Your address is not shared with anyone, the emails are sent from our own hosting's mail server, and we do not track whether you open them or which links you click.
Every email includes a link to unsubscribe, and you can ask for a new link at any time at malupdater.com/unsubscribe. Unsubscribing deletes your email address and your consent record straight away. Copies may remain in our backups until those backups are replaced.
4. Cookies and tracking
The site sets one cookie of its own, and only for a signed-in administrator: the session cookie. Advertising and analytics, where enabled, are loaded only after you accept the cookie banner, and declining is a real decline — the site works identically either way.
5. Third-party services
This site may link to third-party websites, and may serve advertising supplied by third parties. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those services and encourage you to review their policies. They may collect data such as IP addresses and usage patterns.
6. Data security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction, including encryption in transit and limited access to stored data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so while we use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
7. Children
This website and its software are not intended for individuals under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please get in touch and we will remove it.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the website and services after changes are posted constitutes agreement to the revised policy.
